Privacy Notice
This notice explains what Boston Venture Connect collects through bostonventureconnect.com and the registration and application forms it links to, why, and what you can do about it. Boston Venture Connect (“BVC”) is an initiative operated by LJ Labs LLC, which is responsible for the personal data described here.
What we collect
When you apply to present. Your email address; the deck you upload and any personal data it contains; the file’s name and size; and the version of the Submission Terms you accepted, with the time you accepted them. If the link that brought you to the page carried campaign tags, for example from an ad, a partner’s newsletter, or a social post, we keep those tags with your application: source, medium, campaign, term, and content, plus Google’s click identifier (gclid) when you arrive from a Google ad. We also keep the domain of the website that sent you, such as a search engine or an AI assistant, when your browser reports it: the domain only, not the page you were on or what you searched for. The tags and the domain describe the link you followed, not you.
When you send a partner inquiry. Your name, organization, email address, and message.
When you browse the site. Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies. It records the page, the referring site, approximate location, and browser, operating system, and device type, and it recognizes a visit by a hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours. We see these figures only in aggregate.
How we use it
- To review applications and run the event you apply for. If your company is selected, your deck is shared with the investors and partners attending that session, as the Submission Terms describe.
- To reply to you, and to keep applicants and event registrants informed of future BVC programs and events. You can opt out of those updates at any time through the link in any message or by writing to us; correspondence about your application or registration is not affected.
- To reply to partner inquiries. We do not add them to our mailing list.
- To learn which channels bring applications and how the site is used, so we can improve both.
Legal basis (EU and UK visitors)
We process applications, registrations, and selected companies’ details and payments to take the steps you ask for when you apply, register, or confirm a place, and under the Submission Terms and Presenter Terms where you accept them. We send event updates, reply to inquiries, and measure channels and page views on the basis of our legitimate interest in running BVC events and telling people about them. You can object to that processing at any time.
Who processes it for us
- Supabase Inc.: database and file storage.
- Vercel Inc.: website hosting and analytics.
- Mailgun Technologies, Inc.: email delivery.
- Stripe, Inc.: payments, receipts, and invoices for selected companies.
- Google LLC: our email inbox and forms (Google Workspace), and the fonts on this site, which your browser loads from Google Fonts. Loading them shares your IP address with Google.
These providers process data on our behalf and may store it in the United States. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share your contact details with third parties for their own marketing.
Event registration and applications (Luma and Google Forms)
Registration for our in-person events runs on Luma, operated by Luma Labs, Inc. Luma’s own privacy policy covers your Luma account and what Luma does on its platform. When you register, Luma shares your registration with us as the host: your name, your email address, and your answers to any registration questions. From then on, what we do with it is covered by this notice.
Some events take presenter applications through Google Forms. The form sits in our own Google Workspace account, so your answers come to us, and Google processes them on our behalf like the other providers above.
We use registrations and form answers to run the event you signed up for: confirming your place, checking you in, choosing presenters, and contacting you about the event, including changes to its time, place, or program. We may also email you about future BVC programs and events, with an opt-out in every message. We share the guest list with the venue when it requires one for building entry. If your company is selected to present, we share its application with the investors and partners attending that event, and publish its name and description on the event page.
If your company is selected to present
When we select your company, we write to you about the place we are holding. To prepare that email and your confirmation page, we note from your deck your company’s name and its country or region, the name and title of the person likely to present, and, where the deck names a city, its time zone, so our emails reach you in your daytime. You can correct all of it.
On the confirmation page you confirm the presenter’s name and title, an email address, your company’s name as it should appear in the program, its country or region, and whether you will present remotely or in person. You may add a logo, a presenter photo, a one-line description, and LinkedIn links. We record when you first open the page, when you submit it, and the version of the Presenter Terms you accept and when.
Payment runs on Stripe’s own page. Stripe, Inc. collects your payment details; we never see or store your card number. Stripe tells us the amount, currency, and status of the payment and its own references for it, and sends you a receipt and an invoice with any billing details you give it. Stripe’s privacy policy covers what Stripe does with payment data.
We use this to hold and confirm your place, take the Presenter Fee, remind you about the hold and the payment, and list your company and presenter in the event program and our promotion, as the Presenter Terms describe.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies and loads no advertising or tracking scripts. Campaign tags and the referring domain are read when the page loads and held in memory until you submit or leave the page; nothing is stored in your browser. The one exception is the confirmation page for selected companies: it keeps your personal link in that browser tab’s session storage, which your browser clears when you close the tab, so the page still works after a reload or on the way back from the payment page. Luma, Google Forms, and Stripe’s payment page are separate sites with their own cookie policies.
How long we keep it
- Applications, decks, and their campaign tags and referring domain: up to 24 months from submission, then deleted or anonymized, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.
- Event registrations and form applications: up to 24 months after the event.
- Partner inquiries: for as long as the conversation needs them, and no longer than 24 months after our last correspondence.
- Presenter details, logos, and photos: up to 24 months after the event.
- Payment records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Analytics: aggregate figures only; the visit hash is discarded after 24 hours.
Your rights
Write to contact@bostonventureconnect.com to get a copy of your personal data, correct it, delete it, withdraw an application or registration, or stop event updates. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, for example under the GDPR to restrict or object to processing, to receive your data in a portable form, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We honor requests as the applicable law requires.
Children
BVC events are for companies and professionals. This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes and contact
When our practices change we update this notice and the date at the top. An application stays governed by the Submission Terms in force when it was submitted. Questions go to LJ Labs LLC, operator of Boston Venture Connect, at contact@bostonventureconnect.com.
